Half term on our terms

It was while attending my first ever pilates class and right between pretending to be a hibernating turtle stretching out of a cosy shell and being a balanced, feet clapping seal that it occurred to me that it is time to give some real thought to what I want for half term.

So to apply the wheelbarrows metaphor, it is time to get clear about what goes in my wheelbarrow next week. With two half-term sapped and fairly drowsy children, here is my thinking so far:

::  Hot chocolate with lots of marshmallows.

::  At least one loooong session of leaves kicking and puddle jumping.

::  Pumpkin carving and Halloween decoration.

::  A pyjama day or two.

::  Meet up with friends we don’t see very often.

::  Meet up with friends we see all the time.

::  Calm autumnal music on the stereo: I am thinking Agnes Obel, Hayley Westenra and Alicia Keys will fit the bill.

::  Cook a few new dishes for dinner to serve with some home-made bread.

::  Finish unfinished projects in at least one room.

::  Explore one or two new places we have never been to before.

::  Crafting. Fortunately we are well stocked when it comes to fabrics, beads, paints, stamps, cardboard.

::  Daytime watching of the Great British Bake off wearing woolly socks and snuggled up under blankets.

::  Freshen up tired flower pots.

A bit of paint, plant and grocery shopping (must not forget the marshmallows) and we will be ready for half term on our terms.

Wishing you one as well. Happy half-term.

  1. roughly same programme here ….. A week might not be enough though…..! Juliette is too addicted to The great british bake off. she starts shaking if she does not see at least one episode a day!

  3. Aw, this was an exceptionally good post – Half term on our terms | The wheelbarrows. Finding the time and actual effort to produce a top notch article… but what can I say… I procrastinate a whole lot and never seem to get anything done.
